Tawjihi Equivalency

Tawjihi is Jordan’s general secondary national exam. This exam is a mandatory educational requirement for all students who plan to attend a Jordanian university or expect to work in Jordan’s public or private sector after graduation from university abroad. In order to obtain equivalency, students must fulfill all graduation requirements of the Modern American School AND complete one of the following external examination options.

 

Option One

Students must complete a combined total of SEVEN advanced placement (AP) exams and/or SAT Subject tests with scores of at least 3 on each AP, and at least 450 on each SAT Subject test.

 

Option Two

Students must complete FIVE Advanced Placement (AP) exams, with scores of at least 3 on each, and one of the A-Level or Tawjihi exams in Arabic:

  1. Religion (for Muslim students only)
  2. Arabic
  3. General Culture

 

Option Three 

Students must complete SEVEN SAT II exams with a score of at least 450 on each exam.

To obtain equivalency in the Tawjihi science stream for Options 1-3, students must pass THREE SAT II or AP science subjects, and Math SAT II Level IIC or AP Calculus.

 

Option Four

Students must pass four AP exams only (options listed below)

To obtain equivalency in the Tawjihi Science stream, students should:

  1. Pass any TWO AP Exams from the following list: AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, or AP Biology with a minimum of 3 out of 5, and
  2. Pass any other TWO AP exams with a minimum score of 3 out of 5

To obtain equivalency in the Tawjihi Literary stream, students should:

  • Pass any FOUR literary AP exams with a minimum score of 3 out of 5 or Arabic (A-Level or IB BS or B or Tawjihi level three or four)

 

Option Five

Students must pass THREE AP exams and TWO SAT II exams (options listed below)

To obtain Equivalency in the Tawjihi science stream, students should:

  1. Pass any TWO AP exams from the following list: AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry or AP Biology with a minimum of 3 out of 5, and
  2. Pass ONE additional AP Exam with a minimum score of 3 out of 5, and
  3. Pass any TWO SAT II exams available with a minimum score of 450

 

Option Six

Students must pass TWO AP Exams and FOUR SAT II exams (options listed below)

To obtain Equivalency in the Tawjihi Science stream, students should:

  1. Pass any TWO AP Exams from the following list: AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry or AP Biology with a minimum of 3 out of 5, and
  2. Pass any FOUR SAT II exams available with a minimum score of 450 and above

To obtain Equivalency in the Tawjihi Literary stream, students should:

  1. Pass any two AP Exams with a minimum score of 3 out of 5, and
  2. Pass any four SAT II exams available with a minimum score of 450 and above

 

Note: Before students can obtain the Tawjihi equivalency they must provide the ministry with proof that they have completed 12 years of schooling.

  • To calculate the Tawjihi equivalency GPA, the Ministry of Education will combine 50 percent of the 12th grade GPA and 50 percent of the results on SAT II and/or AP exams.
  • To calculate the Tawjihi equivalency GPA for those students opting for options 4-6, the Ministry of Education will count the results on the SAT II and/or AP Exams only.
