MAS Model United Nations International Conference a Big Success!

Modern American School - MUN 2019

The Modern American School hosted its 6th annual Model United Nations Conference (MASMUN ’19) with the theme of “From Fear to Freedom”. MAS welcomed more than 150 participants from different private schools in Amman. To kick off the opening ceremony, the MUN Director Mr. Jerald Risner commenced the ceremony with a speech highlighting the opportunity MUN offers to students to become global leaders. Our keynote speakers Mr. Alex Hawkes, a US Political Officer from the American embassy, and Dr. Rama Hijjawi delivered insightful speeches highlighting the vital role of the youth. Afterwards, the Secretary General Kristina Salem gave a brief speech about the topics ranging from Containment of Space Debris and Environmental Regulations in one forum to Discrimination and Treatment of Women in the Armed Forces in a different forum that the delegates would be debating.

During the three-day conference, participants in this MASMUN ’19 had the opportunity to practice research, public speaking, teamwork, negotiation, and writing skills in a safe and structured environment. The atmosphere throughout the conference was energetic and vibrant where students had the opportunity to show their diverse perspective of the world. This academic activity allowed students to represent their viewpoints on global issues that required analysis, and improved engagement skills with other students. Most importantly, students formed new friendships with those who have similar interests. Mr. Mamoun, the MUN Advisor, extended his appreciation to everyone, especially MAS founders Mr. and Ms. Zamel, High School Admin. team, MAS MUN team, delegates, MUN directors, and MAS valued sponsors
