The beautiful country of Jordan is located between the Levantine and Arabian areas of the Middle East and is characterized by its vast array of different landscapes and ancient landmarks. Rich in diverse culture, history, and exquisite Middle Eastern cuisine, Jordan is an ideal place to visit and live. The cuisine consists of a versatile array of spices, grains, meats- all of which are fresh, wholesome, aromatic, and healthy. In addition to its delightful food and rich culture, Jordan is home to a diverse population of ethnic and religious groups, all of which have full freedom to participate in their own associations, religious practices, and schools.

Amman, the modern and ancient capital of Jordan and home to the Modern American School, is situated in the Western part of the country. Amman is located less than an hour from the Dead Sea by car or taxi and a little more than four hours from Aqaba and the beautiful Red Sea. The city is organized by eight primary circles (roundabouts) and the town center is home to Amman’s artistic and cultural focal point, Rainbow Street.

Rainbow Street is well renowned for its quaint cafes, trendy shops, and various street markets.Popular weekend getaway opportunities in Jordan include visits to Petra, Wadi Rum, Madaba, and many more. Petra, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and the most popular tourist attraction in Jordan, is a rock-cut Nabataean town whose creation dates back to more than 2000 years ago. Wadi Rum is a protected area in the South of Jordan that can be accessed via jeep, camel, or by guided hiking tours. Madaba, which means “the City of Mosaics,” offers a remarkable glimpse into the 6th century with tiled mosaic maps of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. These are only a few examples of the ancient historical landmarks that are found within this remarkable country.

In addition to the ancient wonders, Jordan offers a wide variety of educational museums with a more modern feel. These include The Amman Archaeological Museum, The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, The Royal Automobile Museum, The Children's Museum, and more. Additionally, the Jordan Valley is just a short drive away and easily accessible for day excursions that include walking, hiking, riding, and sports. With a wide variety of markets, museums, and historical landmarks, Amman offers something for the whole family.
